Scrapbooking system day 5 - Page kits from Project Kits

Hands up if you reach a stage like me, where you practically cannot stick to one choice of paper or embellishment when you're working on your project. Hands down.
Me too. I'm totally a person who keep looking for more options

That's the reason why I can only work with SEVERAL layouts at one time
I also call it batch tasking.
I seldom sit down with supplies for just one layout
Instead, I grab a few photos i wanna scrap and then pack a kit for that set of photos
then I go through the paper and pic out the suitable backgroud for each layout/photo

I then go through the embellishments and also match them to my layouts

I then lay some other pattern papers I want to use on the layouts

So at one time, I can have 2,3 4 or even 5 layouts in progress.
After matching them into potential page kits
I start cutting the pattern paper into sizes

I often have my pinterest board on my ipad mini
when i assemble the layout
for inspiration of where to place my embellishments and photos
After I place all the papers and embellishments in place
only then will I start pasting the papers down

Here is a view of how I get 3 layouts done in one sitting :)

I also start to pack page kit for my Childhood layouts

Sometimes the photo inspire the color combination of the page
other times the paper inspire the layout
that means sometimes I look at the photo and i thought of a paper that goes with it
while the other times i look at a paper and i'm reminded of a photo which is suitable for this layout

Dad feels like gray and blue

mum feels like red and pink :)

I hope you can give this batch tasking a try :)
It has been working so well for me lately
or you can try to pack page kits as well :)
It's fun!

I hope you have been enjoying System September

Scrapbooking system day 4 - Setting up the pages

After I have my journaling and my photos in place
I'm ready to set up the pages
Today I share how i set up my Project Life / pocket style pages
Tomorrow I will share with you how i layout my traditionally pages

I choose this journaling card pad for my project
as i feel that alot of the phrases are very suitable for this childhood themed album

I also went ahead into my Kraft Edition Project Life Kit from Becky Higgins
and choose some journaling cards
Title cards and pattern/filler cards

Then , page by page, i place the cards

Now that the general layout is done
it's easy next to add title, embellishments and journaling whenever i have the time :)

Scrapbooking system day 3 - Journaling

I'm a fan of Evernote

It took me awhile to realize that I dont like to do journaling
the reason is because designing and writing is 2 kind of process
when i'm in the creative mode, I dont want to slow down and think about what to write
hence I decide to seperate the 2 process

I set up notebooks for different purposes
One notebook for each scrapbook class
One notebook for each scrapbook process
Hence I have a notebook for Childhood stories
And I can drag photos into the notes and have them with me everywhere I go
I journal on my way to work , on my way home
I add bits and pieces of notes as and when I thought of them
and i also use it to record the random ideas which pop up time and again
so that i won't lose track of them

When i have journaling for a few layouts ready
I will then scrapbook them
Sometimes I try to prevent myself from scrapbooking those pages without journaling done
because even thought i might say i will come back and journal on these pages
it never get done!

Try Evernote, and share with me how it's like :)

Scrapbooking system day 2 - The Photos

Hello all,
Today i'm sharing my process of selecting photos
I select photos from a stack of old photo albums
all the photos taken in the 90s are 3x5 instead of the 4x6 these days
I scan them on my Hp deskjet scanner
it fits 5 photos and i scan all 5 at one go,
and cut them up on my photo manager
I use Lightroom to add a little contrast and brighten things up a little
sometimes changing the white balance if the photo is too warm or too greenish
or turning some photos black and white because the composition is a little distracting
sometimes the photo is a little loud and i tone things down by decreasing the satuation

I print using my pretty little canon selphy 900
it's great as it has wireless printing
and it print with lovely colours
it's convenient as i can go and see how many photos are they in an event
decide the size and the type of page protectors to use
and print them acording to size
Majority of them are in 4x6, while some are 3x4
I had shared a video of this darling printing some photos here on my instagram

So far, I have scanned and print all the photos i choosen up to 7years old
it's already about 200 photos
I dont want to scrap them all!
I want them documented but not all in the traditional layouts as that will mean i need to do about 80-100 layouts

Since I want to scrapbook my childhood chronologically
the next thing i do is I go ahead and spilt the photos into 5 piles
before 3 years old, 4 years old, 5 years old , 6 years old and 7 years old
Also, i have 2 piles of event photo
i went to the zoo and birdpark almost every year
so those i decide to scrap together instead of putting into the chronology

So then i started slotting things into the pocket pages
some important photos with big story get a page

my parents wedding photos are not printed yet
they will go here

I'm using a post it to remind myself

others which has lots of photos
goes into the Becky Higgins Project Life page protector

I will share till here
see you tomorrow :)
